After I set the Emag timing I noticed a small cycling indication on the G3X tachometer of about 600-900 RPM; even though the engine was static. I reached out to Mark A. He was thinking that perhaps I introvertedly connected the shielding of the Emag’s tachometer cable to the input port.
This morning, I tore into the wiring & found no indication that the system was incorrectly wired. The tachometer’s input wire was connected properly to the terminal & its shielding was isolated from it & connected to the ground port. I cleaned up the installation & reconnected the harness to the Emag.
On the way home I thought through this gremlin issue & began to wonder if I should not had connected the Emag’s tachometer wire’s shielding to the grounding terminal. Was this grounding the issue? Once I arrived home I read that it may just be the problem. After all, the RPM fluctuation was as if the tachometer was picking up just a slight amount of signaling to cause the indication. I reached out to Josh at SteinAir & I learned two things. 1.The shielding should NOT be connected to the Emag’s ground terminal. It should be sealed off & free from any connection. 2.The panel builder apparently set up the G3X configuration wrong & it needs to be readjusted.
Tomorrow I will correct these two flaws & see what that brings. Hopefully, the gremlin will be gone.
Thank you Mark & Josh..!
