The story is convoluted, but here it is.

After trying to get an FAA airworthiness inspector to come and inspect our RV-7A (for free), we gave up and called a DAR who we had talked to about an inspection. We gave up on the FAA airworhtiness inspector even though he had scheduled to inspect our RV-7A on 30 Sept 2013. He was worried about his job with the impending government shutdown.

We emailed the DAR our paperwork, and faxed the San Antonio FAA MIDO our paperwork (after they were closed) on 27 Sept, the Friday before the government shutdown on Tuesday, 1 Oct 2013. On Monday, 30 Sept, I called the DAR to check that he had our paperwork, he did. I then called the FAA MIDO to check that they had received our faxed paperwork, they did. I asked the FAA MIDO supervisor if the paperwork was OK, and he said that it was fine. I asked him to call the DAR to give him the go ahead for the inspection, he did. I called the DAR and we scheduled the inspection for Saturday, 5 Oct 2013.

We passed the inspection with flying colors, right in the middle of the US government shutdown! The DAR said that he would send his paperwork to the FAA when they went back to work.

What are the odds that this would happen without a hiccup? It was worth the $500 that the DAR charged us!! I was impressed with the FAA man that did his job under the stress of the impending government shutdown. The DAR also impressed me with his professionalism and thorough inspection. Sometimes the system works!!
