Brief Description:  Finish Cowl & Start Horiz Stab Install

Short day; was hotter and more humid than I wanted.

Finished the cowl. All I had to do today was to rivet the oil access door cover into position; it was all drilled yesterday. Just deburred everything and riveted the hinge to the cowl itself.

After that, I cleaned-off the horizontal stab and prepped it for installation. I checked the hinge pins and they were .086 in diameter, pretty much standard. I called Roger about the door hinge pins and he advised that the door hinges come from Zenair Canada, which explains their use of .097 pins. Big diff. Roger was going to check to see if they had any lenghts of "regular" hinges or hinge pins" laying around their hangar.

Since the tips were already riveted to the stab and painted, I could not use the "traditional" method of using the tooling holes to check the level of the stab. I carefully applied tape down the chord line of the stabilzer tips and checked the digital level against what is supposed to be a zero to negative 1 degree of title. Came out right at .6 degrees, right in the middle. Surprisingly.

I then checked the tip distance to a common fuselage point, the rear wing spar. Bot were exactly the same. Finally, I checked the horizontal level of the stasbilizer against the cabin frame tools and it was spot-on level. A satisfying day. Did not drill ino position; I need to push the whole stab just a bit aft to allow the stabilizer "legs" to be more centered on the fuselage brackets.
