Brief Description: Finish Cowl nutplates; start inspection door
2 days ago, I installed the cowl nutplates on the passenger side of the plane. Today I installed the pilot side nutplates. I still need to install nutplates along the seam between the upper and lower cowl halves.
I also started the installation of the oil/inspection door. I measured roughly the distance of the oil fill pipe from the firewall. I then used a 1" hole saw to drill a hole in that general location. I hit it right; I could see the oil filler pipe right under it. So I measured-out the full door dimensions, then made a second set of measurements just inside that to allow the door to sit on top of the cowl.
I cut open the "hatch" and then realized I didn't leave enough room for the Dzus fastener that keeps it shut. I also noted the hinge is a bit too long, so wantd to get home to review the builder's guide and figure out corrective action.
