I could not figure out how things got out of sequence. I *know* I set the installation pin in the mags to the L hole, since these are left rotation mags. I *kinow* I had things set up for clinder #1 when I installed the mags.
Anyway, I pulled the mags, inserted the installation timing pin, and reinstalled the mags. Used the mag synch tweeter box to set the mags spot-on to 28BTC timing, and that both fired together.
Tried it. Still no start, nor even an attempt to start.... Now, I did not have a test fuel tank installed; I figured there were enought fumes in the fuel bowl to at leat make an attempt.
So I shot some starting ether in the carb inlet. Fired off on the 2nd prop blade! And then hopped the wheel chocks IN THE GARAGE and started heading for the car parked in the driveway. As I grap to hold it, the engine died. I'm assuming the fuel in the fuel bolw was depleted. But it ran STRONG; no misses or other issues.
Best I can figure is that when I aligned the prop on initial mag installation, I must have been 180 out, setting the timing marks to the upper crankcase seam, instead fo the lower, as per the manual. Several months transpired between receipt of the mags and their installation, so I probably overlooked it.
