Brief Description:  Finish Cowl

Good day.

Note that this post is split in two to allow extra pics.

Started off by adding nutplates to the top edge of the lower cowl. Started drilling on Saturday; finished today.

Then it was on to adding the grommets around the screw holes in the upper and lower cowl. The hiehgt of the supplied grommets was pretty tight, so developed a method using vise grip pliers in addition to the grommet crimping pliers to get a good set. These grommets use a washer on the back as opposed to generic grommets that don't. For some of the holes I then decided to use my sander to remove some of the cowl material, allowing more "grip" area, which worked well.

Lastly, I trial installed the oil access door in the upper cowl. I previously cut the hole but just finessed it today. Sanded the edges smooth and even so the door hinge strip would fit well and tight. Then I drilled the holes for the Dzus fastener. This took some trial and error to ensure I had enough material available for the .3" hole. Finally positioned, secuired, and drilled for the Dzue spring that grabs the "stud" of the fastener. Riveted. These pics are in the next post.
