Brief Description:  Cowl / Wingtip Prime; Lower Skin Issues

Got a lot done, got set back quite a bit as well.

Started off by sanding the right side cowl putty work. Primed.

Next, I sanded the putty work on the right wingtip. Took quite a bit, but finally finished it. Primed it. I can see about 5 little dips that I'll fill with NitroStan and re-prime, but otherwise I'm happy with it. Oh yeah; on one area of the painted front nose portion that I didn't strip, the paint started to bubble up faintly. Will sand that down and reshoot it.

Next, I removed, sealed, and reinstalled the spring loaded fuel drain on the gascolator. Funny, but I never put any teflon sealer on that part on original installation. Noticed a drip on first engine start, and evidence of a slight drip on the shop floor. Tightened.

Lastly, I thought I'd at least cleco the lower skin into position. The only issue with this si that at the extreme aft of the fuselage for the front mount of the tailwheel, there are two AN525 machine screws that must be installed. I figured that if I started at the back of the plane, the skin would drape down enough that I could get decent access. I was right. However, when trying to put the washer over the screw stud, it would not go on. Noticed that there was a rivet thru the fuse sidewall that was close enough to cause interference. Drilled-out the rivets; will replace once the nuts are on.

Next, I noticed that the right side rudder cable was lightly dragging on the side fuse skin where it exits the fuselage. This bothered me, since a) replacing the cable (if it wore thru) would be a royal pain, and b) I'm not thrilled with the thought of losing rudder control. I removed the fairing and elongated the opening as far as I could; still interfered. I'm thinking of installing a sleeve of some type over the cable; I have a call into my tech counsellor.

(*sigh*) So, the end result is that I messed around with rivets and the rudder cable, and didn't get the skin installed.

Happy New Year.
