Brief Description:  W/Shield Bow, Motor Mount, Tailwheel, Tank Stops

Just miscellaneous work.

Just didn't feel like doing much today; was pretty stiff from a lot of yardwork (major work) yesterday, so I picked something that didn't need bending over, etc. in order to loosen up a bit.

Adjusted the solid-core windshield bow to fit in the holes properly. This required placement in the vise and gradual bends to straighten the bow at the point where it inserts into the upper longerons on the foward fuselage. Cleaned up some scratches as a result of this work.

Next, I removed the aft fuel tank stop angles, designed to keep the tank from slipping rearward. I glued 1/4" felt to the tank mate surfaces of the angles, then riveted the angles into position.

Installed the instrument panel, just to make sure everything lined up with all the under-glareshield work I'd done over the past few months. Had to lean on a few parts to get the holes to line up, but they all did.

Next, it was on to mounting the tailwheel. Installed the titanium tailwheel spring into the aft weldment, which required some weird body language to reach thru the aft fuse inspection hole while simultaneously reaching around the bottom of the fuse to put the nut on. Torqued to spec.

When I went to install the tailwheel portion of the assembly, I had forgotten that I hadn't re-painted the areas where I removed the powdercoating when I was drilling the hardware mounting holes. Painted the parts, but have not yet installed (paint is drying).

Lastly, I trial-placed the motor mount into position to check it against the fuel vent line. The line was a bit too long, so made the final cut on it, then angled the bottom where it extends into the slipstream.

I then installed the motor mount shims and finger-tightened 6 of the 8 motor mount bolts. (the last two require some special access provisions due to the tight install aspects. will do this when I return to the project.).
