Brief Description:  Cutting Glareshield / Detail parts

The glareshield comes with the kit, so it's already bent in the correct spots. The builder must till cut it to fit, however. This entails making the 30 degree cuts to form the front and panel ends of the sheild (the kit part is basically a squared-off piece of aluminum). Measured extensively (the plans page is a bit confusing, even though it shows how to trim the kit-part).

I can tell this is not going to be a measure, drill, and rivet operation. The panel is supposed to be completed (well, the metal part) so that the 3/16" attach angles can be used to provide the mounting location against the forward wing attach angles. However, most folks want the glareshield loose for awhile so that they can play around with the rudder pedals, the gas tank, and the gas tank straps. I've left off the upper firewall to this point, so I'll have to figure out some way to test-fit the panel to allow mounting the glareshield, yet still allow it to be removed (i.e., not yet riveted). Wont' be difficult - just some thinking.

Cut stock to length for the 3 attach angles for the glareshield-to-firewall area. Also cut two fuel tank stops to length. Since these are all made from 2x2 angle, they have to be ripped to about 9/16" on each side and pilot holes drilled. The two side pieces are 66 degrees, the center piece is 60 degrees in angle. The two fuel stop angles will also be ripped, but remain at 90 degrees.

Also, not shown, I cut the instrument panel cross-tie to length.
