Brief Description:  Finish (?) Gear Leg Fairings

First task was playing around with gasoline. Since I'm getting close to the point where I *could* start the engine, I needed to ensure I had a good container for 100LL. I had an old jerry can that was in pretty good shape, so I put about a gallon of mogas in it and sloshed it about. I then made a filter cone out of the blue shop towels and poured the gas back into my mower gas container. Examining the filter cone, I found several (~15) small flecks of "stuff" in it, so the inner seams of the can are suspect. Went and bought a new can.

Next I finished the gear leg fairings. The hinges were previously pilot-drilled. I updrilled to #30 and deburred all 4 hinge halves and cleco'd everything together in preparation for riveting.

The plans call for a 25" hinge pin to be inserted from inside the cockpit, snaking thru a hole in the floor into the fairing hinge halves. Some other builders have taken an alternate approach of using two pins for each fairing, inserted from the middle of the fairing up and down. I cut notches into the backside of each fairing so that the notches are only visible from underneath the plane. I also removed portions of the hinge just like we did with the seat pan to allow easy hinge pin insertion and removal.

Next up is to finish installing the wheel pants. If the fairings fit OK against the pants, then they're done. If not, only minor trimming should be required.
