Brief Description:  Left Side Cowl Trimming

Excuses, Excuses.

It's now Sunday PM; haven't touched the project since last Monday. Tuesday was just an "off" day, so I goofed off. Wednesday a Chapter member (Hi, Sean!) stopped by for a project tour. Thursday I had to get the Chapter newsletter out, and Friday was, well Friday was Opening Day for the Texas Rangers, so that took up just about the entire day. Saturday was catch-up for errands, yard work, etc., and then earlier today we had another Rangers' game. Great family time, though, and that's important.

Anyway, I messed around some more with the difficult left cowl side. The right side had a good amount to be trimmed-off, just like the plans (plans say about 1", I was at 7/8 - close enough). The left side MAX distance was 7/16" tapering down from there, but it looks like everything will fit just fine. I did have to trim some of the oil cooler baffle, though, as it was pressing pretty hard into the front of the cowl. Measured the trim line and cut the fuselage side piece. Took 3 attempts at test-fitting to file-down a high spot or two, but the fit along the fuse side is now as nice as the right side.

Checking underneath, it looks like the cowls will line up nicely with no gap.

At this point the June bugs were gettng pretty nasty in the garage as was the humidity (storms tonight?), so I called it a night.

Next up: determining and trimming the centerlines where the cowl halves fit together.
