Brief Description:  Backup Batt Wiring / Cowl Trim & Initial Fit

Drew a trim pattern in PowerPoint with a 5" circle for the prop hub, and bifurcated it with a line nothing the center of the circle.

Creased the template along the line, and set it in place on the right cowl half. Taped to secure it. Marked the outline with a Sharpie.

Removed the template, took it outside, and used a saber saw to cut the glass. Initially smoothed the cut with sandpaper in my hand.

Took it in and set it in place around the prop hub. Very close. Looks like the initial fitting will go relatively easy.

Ooops. Then I noticed that I forgot (really hadn't planned for tonight) to cut the cowling for where the gear legs will protrude, along with the gascolator, fuel vent, and crankcase vent lines.

Next up was the backup battery wiring. As noted last night I forgot to include the backup batt switch in the harness, so it was a simple matter to snip the "+" lead, and run wires to the panel switch. Connected the battery and -hey- it worked. Connected the main battery and confirmed that the Enigma stayed powered up whether the main or backup battery was providing the power.

I then noticed an acrid burning smell. Never noticed this before when just powering the Enigma from a single 12V source, so I don't know if this was the first power application to the internal battery charger or what that was causing the smell. Went away after awhile, but I still removed all power connections when done for the night.
