Brief Description:  EGT & R/F Baffle

Decided to install the EGT probes, since it's basically just drilling holes in the exhaust and putting a hose clamp/probe into the hole/strap around the pipe.

I first researched the probe connections to the RDAC. There are only 12 thermocouple ports on the RDAC - unlabelled whether they are for EGT or CHT. I thought I had seen something about the connection order in the past, but couldn't recall where. I posted a question on SonexTalk, but no answer. Fortunately, after a few minutes of reading the Enigma manual, I found the answer. The EGT probes start with TC-1, and after however many you have, then you install the CHT probes.

The AeroVee manual cautions the builder to ensure that the probes don't interfere with the cowl or cooling baffles. The rear was no prob; drilled the hole and installed - it was obvious there would be no conflict.

I then brought out the right side of the cowl, and positioned it over the engine. Again, there was plenty of clearance between the front exhaust pipe and the cowl. Then I rememberd seeing that the front cooling baffles are trimmed to fit around the exahaust pipe, so I was concerned that right where the probe is to be mounted (4" from the exhaust flange) would be the baffle. Since the probe clamp wraps around the pipe, I didn't want a conflict. So, I got out the right side baffle pieces, bent them per directions, and just set them in position. Was relieved to see there was plenty of room underneath for the probe. Drilled the front pipe hole and mounted the probe.

Will have to remove the probes because I still have to trim the length of the pipes and install the flange gaskets.
