Brief Description:  Wire Electronic Ignition Coils

The secondary ignition is electronic, driven by hall-effect triggers on the back of the flywheel, that then fire two coils mounted on the firewall. This is in comparison to the primary ignition, the magnetrons.

The trigger wires, along with power and ground, must be routed from the coils to the triggers and then back to the coils.

Sounds simple, right? This was just frustrating. I could not find "red" ring terminals that were 3/16", so I had to up-drill #8 rings. Then, I had to strip the wire and crimp terminals onto them. This is pretty straight-forward if you're working on a bench, but with the engine mounted, having to work under the fuel filler box is tight. Couple that with old eyes and you get the picture. The positive feed comes from the cockpit. This is then jumpered from one coil to the next, along with the hot feed for the trigger assemblies. So there are two wires per rear connection.

Got everything crimped, then determined that the screws into the coils were too long, so I had to disassemble it all and use the grinding wheel to trim-down the screws. Deburred quite well, I thought, but still started to strip out the coils (two screws). So I then had to dig out a #10 tap and clean out the threads.

Finally got it all together and tight.
