Progress and frustration.
Well, Sonex says all is well with my oil pump housing (see last night's log). I knew the pump housing was a tight fit in the engine case, so I placed it in the freezer for a few hours to help things along.
I removed from the freezer, installed the paper gasket, and lightly tapped it into position. About 1/4" from all the way in, I adjusted the rotation of the housing to ensure that the mounting bolts would line up with the holes in the case.
I then test-fit the driven impeller gear to ensure that it matched the cam, then removed it, lubed it up well with white lithium grease, installed it, and did the same with the idler gear.
Next, I obtained the correct 5/16" bolt for installing the remainder of the prop bushings. Smooth sailing on the first two (making a total of 3 counting last night). On the 4th one, the bolt snapped when it was 1/2 way installed. Back to Lowes!
