Brief Description:  She's Got Legs!

Continuing from Wednesday, I bent the left brake cable guide to fit the axle and to provide the correct angle for the cable to connect with the actuation lever.

Next, I drilled the backing plates where they mount to the axles and attached with AN3-4A HW, which is one size smaller than the plans state. Other builders clued me in on this area; the -5A HW is a bit too long, and gets caught up in the brake return spring.

Painted the hardware that got dinged up (weldments).

I then rigged the tailwheel; was waiting on some AN hardware to arrive from Wicks. In rigging the link I had to bend a dogleg in it because the link was digging into the rudder control horn. That was followed by lots of trial and error with washers combinations (thick and thin) to get a non-sloppy fit of the linkage. Can't be tight (binding) either.

Installed the gear legs to the motor mount; installed AN4 HW and torqued to spec. Assembled brake / axle assemblies to gear legs. Adjusted backing plates as per recommended procedure (banging with a mallet!). Then, marked the location for the cotter pin holding the axle nut in place. The builder must locate and drill this hole.

Removed all parts. Drilled the axles; cleaned up, deburred. Reassembled the assemblies to the gear legs; packed the wheel bearings. Installed cotter pins.

Next, the moment that's almost as good as a first flight; took it off the sawhorses and on her own 3 legs! Naturally, I had to wheel 'er out into the sunlight and pose her for numerous pictures.
