Before the brake drum backing plate assemblies can be affixed to the axle weldments, the builder is instructed to round-off the corners of the brake show cams. Picture 1 below shows the as-received condition of the cam, and picture 2 shows the same piece with rounded corners.
Some builders have commented that getting the brake shows spread apart was a tough job for them. I had a strong pair of snapring pliers in my toolbox which fit between the shoes perfectly. They allowed me to spread the shoes sufficently to remove and re-install the cam in no time at all.
