Brief Description:  Rear Spar Channel Details

Another frustrating day.

I decided to take some time studying the plans closer just to see if there were any gotcha's looming out there. I was also looking for something to do to keep the progress going on the project since the motor mount trim issue still has to be resolved.

I thought about the tailwheel, since the fuse is still inverted on sawhorses. Looking at the page, I can see that I really can't install the t/w until the rudder is in place due to the steerable nature of the tailwheel, but then I noticed the thing that caused my frustration. It seems that the pre-welded, kit-supplied tail wheel skid mount is supposed to have a hole in it for the titanium tailwheel "spring". Mine doesn't have it. I had *assumed* that the weldments would be correct, so I never checked the supplied part with the plans. Rats. So, I'll have to remove the weldment and drill it. Fortunately, it's only bolted into the aft fuselage.

Spent the remainder of the time on plans page SNX-F03, the rear spar channel details. This doesn't get installed into the fuselage until wing rigging day when the angle of incidence is set, but there is a subassembly that I could work on today.

Cut channel stock to length for it, plus cut a shear angle piece as well that connects the channel to the aft fuse lower crosstie. Several parts were provided in the kit, and some others were part of the machined angle components option I purchased. I did have to cut some spacer blocks from 3/16" stock and other spacers from .032" stock. Drilled alignment holes and clearance notches on the rear spar channel. These, I believe, have to be fairly close tolerance since the determine the overall alignment of the rear wing spars.
