Today I trimmed a bit more off the sides of the windshield. I'm happy with these now, the height of the windshield matches the forward firewall strap and aft windshield bow. I then moved on to trimming the aft side of the windshield so it's just hanging over the bow slightly. No measurements are required, Sonex marks the line to cut in the factory with what I presume was done with a router. As this is not a straight cut, I did not do this with the dremel tool, that would not have been easy to work accurately enough. I did this with the jigsaw with metal cutting blade, worked well. Happy with the result so far, I will still need to trim the forward side though.
In the mean time I've been talking to Scott at Hummel engines about my cracked case, he will make me a new one to match the cracked one and send it some time this week. Hopefully I get that next week so I can get my VW specialist friend to start rebuilding it.
