Brief Description:  Completion of Canopy Fit

Trial fitting of the canopy is completed.

Although I was technically finished with the canopy last night, I just wasn't happy with the fit. The aft edge didn't fit right - one side was above the t-deck, the other below, even though the canopy frame was even when I started. Additionally, the forward portion of the hinged side of the canopy was stressed a bit such that the latch mechanism was difficult to work.

Spent a good deal of time tonight trying things, removing and installing the right hinge piece, "adjusting" the fit and bend of the metal, etc. Just frustrating because there wasn't one thing I could find that was that different.

I finally noticed that when I removed the hinge pin and lifted the canopy a bit on the right side, it would want to spring forward about 5/32" from the correct placement in the hinge gaps.

I re-made the upper hinge piece for the right side, offsetting the holes by 5/32". This required some additional trimming of canopy material since the whole right side of the canopy is now 5/32" further foreward than before. The only bad thing of this rework is that the holes thru the canopy are now not aligned to the "tabs" of the hinge material, but structurally and aerodynamically all is well.

The canopy now closes easier, the aft edge is a better fit left to right, the latch works a bit easier, and the hinge pin is easier to insert. Still takes two to "encourage" the last 2" of hinge pin, but far better than before.

I now need to countersink the holes and fasten the material to the frame.
