Brief Description:  Evaluating Fuel Tank Fit

Spent some time just touching the airplane and trial fitting things.

Evaluated the loose fuel tank. Part of the problem was that the rear fuel tank straps were asymmetrical, causing the tank to be cocked in position at the front. Re-bent the strap, and now is even. Still have some clearance between the tank and the upper crossmember; as another user suggested, I'm going to get several layers of 1/8" felt to pad the top of the tank if, once riveted, it's still loose.

Re-connected pigtail leads to the ground block; added some tie-wrap to give a more rigid bundle.

Removed the glareshield, since later this week my Enigma EFIS is to arrive, so I'll need the access for attaching the RDAC to the firewall; once that's done, I can button stuff up, rivet it all, install the tank, and concentrate on other stuff.

I was going to add a length of angle stock to the firewall to act as a stiffener around the gascolator, but the engine mount will be in the way where it's needed. Once I install the gear legs, their attach bolts have been known to contact the firewall. Most builders cushion the contact points with rubber (silicone) which will add some rigidity to the overall firewall, so I think I'm OK for now.
