Brief Description:  Tailwheel Mount / Shear Web Details

Productive day.

Made up a measuring tool to ensure accurate 4.125" spacing of the shear web from the aft edge of the fuse skins. Positioned web, clamped, and pilot drilled in about 4 locations. Positioned bulkhead, clamped, and pilot drilled. Finished drilling all other shear web holes, using the web as the drilling template. Was going to take out the web and drill from the top surfaces, but with the 12" long reach drill, it was no problem to just do it. Pulled the shear web / bulkhead assy in and out about 4 times just to check distances, access, and centerline to the bulkhead-to-side skin spacing. Positioned and pilot drilled the forward attach angle that goes on the front of the shear web, and attaches to the #5 vertical channels, serving as an upper crosstie.

Up until now, I had only pilot drilled & cleco'd the lower skin to the longerons. Today, pilot drilled the skin-to-crosstie areas. Left these at #40 (both #40 and #30 cleco's are running short by now). Updrilled the skin hoes at the longerons. Updrilled the bulkhead-to-tailwheel weldment to 3/16" to accomodate AN3 hardware. Updrilled the bulkhead lower mount angle to the longerons to 3/16" as well.

Pilot drilled and updrilled the right side of the aft tail spar. The left side is not drilled & riveted until the tail is mounted, as the lower section of rudder hinge has to be fitted at that time.

Removed the bulkhead and shear web parts; finished pilot drilling (some holes hard to reach in the fuse), then up-drilled. Disassembled, deburred, and is now ready for riveting.

Can't believe I'm almost done with the aft fuse.
