Brief Description: Wiring / Throttle Quadrant
|
|
Cut wiring lengths that will go from panel thru firewall penetration. Included:
- 2 shielded 22 ga runs for P-leads - 12 ga master - 14 ga starter switch - 22 ga fuel level sensor-to-Enigma RDAC - 18 ga secondary electronic ignition
Since I don't yet have my Enigma (nor have I ordered it!), I'm unsure about the RDAC to Enigma line. From the online Enigma installation diagram, it appears to be a shielded twisted pair run; I'm unsure if this comes with the Enigma or if I order it on my own.
I also still have to run plus/minus wires for the Enigma RDAC secure power supply. This does not tie into the system common ground bus.
Next, I up-drilled the existing hole in the left panel attach bracket to 1/2" and installed the throttle cable. Eye-balling the mixture cable position, it looked like it would fit on the upper portion of the same bracket. I placed a dot, and removed the bracket to measure and drill. It looked a bit too close at 2.25" center distance between the controls; I mention this only because some builders have mentioned that their placements (regardless of location) were sometimes a bit too close for comfort. So, I took a scrape piece of metal and drilled two holes 2.25" apart, and installed the cables in that. I felt that there would not be interference, especially since the throttle sticks out much farther than the mixture, even when both are fully pushed in.
Removed the cables, drilled a 7/16" hole in the aforementioned bracket for the mixture cable, and installed the cables. One thing I did not adequately plan for was the mounting nut on the back of the mixture cable. This is pressed right up against the underside of the lower panel cross-brace, such that it will be difficult to remove if needed. I'm going to see if smaller hardware is available.
