Brief Description:  Buffing, Painting, Buffing, Repairing, Repainting

Started off by compounding the right cowl. Made several passes where necessary.

Right after that, I clearcoated the left cowl. Applied several coats spaced a few minutes apart.

I then turned my attention to the right side turtledeck former. I had previously painted and clearcoated, but when I buffed that side (left turned out OK), it was obvious the clearcoat had worn thru. So I scuffed it up and re-clearcoated a few days ago. Last night I had sanded some runs out, so today was buffing day. After the first pass, it was obvious that there were some pretty good scratches that showed up. Tried another pass with the compound - still no good. Scuffed it up with 400 grit followed by 600 grit. Now the buffer wouldn't work in the correct orientation. Whenever I'd turn it, it would turn off. Finally discovered a position that would work for the angle of the turtledeck (upside down!), and got to buffing. Still looked lousy. Evidently I didn't put enough compound on the surface, because I used quite a bit more, then things started looking good. Buffed a bit more and cleaned it up. Applied Meguiar's wax to the finished surface.

I mentioned previously about the wrinkled paint on the vertical stab tip. I sanded the areas smooth (both sides of the tip, of cousre), and maske off the area. One trick I learned years ago was to space the mask out a bit from the surface - this way, there's no hard tape lines if you're trying to blend-in a repaired spot. Masked things off, shot two coats of primer and two of color, all waiting 1/2 hour between each coat.
