Brief Description:  Attach Angle Details

First parts for the wing (spar)! Return to work after returning from AirVenture 2008. Great weather. Absolutely great - high of 85 deg; no rain, low humidity.

Decided to complete the pre-assembled wing spars. Only a few bolt-on parts remain, like the attach angles and associated aluminum blocks.

Cut 4 SNX-W11-03 wing attach blocks from raw aluminum bar stock. Tried to cut on bandsaw; was very difficult, and wanted to twist blade. While the bandsaw blade was dull (don't ask), there was such poor performance from it that I decided to try my luck with the chop saw; worked just fine.

Cleaned and deburred the saw cuts. Cut the 3/16" chamfer on all 4 blocks, then smoothed them all out with the belt sander and Scotchbrite wheel.

Fabricated and deburred SNX-W11-04 shim plates (2) for the End Attach Angles.

Since I had purchased the machined angle parts option, the End Attach Angles had the 3/16" pilot holes already drilled, so I clamped the blocks into place and used the machined angle part as the pilot for drilling the 3/16 hole thru the block. Used lots of oil.

Clamped everything into position and then drilled the 1/4 holes for the AN4-15A bolts thru the blocks. Step drilled up thru 5 steps. Used lots of oil. Drilled and fitted onto End Attach Angles.

Completed SNX-W11-02 End Wing Attach Assy's (2).

SNX-W11-06 Root Wing Attach Assemblies appear a bit simpler; no shim, no 3/16" hole already drilled in the angle pieces. These are basically just clamp and drill, and those will be done next.

Notes: plans call for "tight fit" holes for the 1/4" AN4-15A bolts. Drilling holes using an aviation 1/4" bit on the end wing attach angles made for no wobble, but more of a slip fit than a "tight fit" called out in the plans. Will not complete the -06 root assy's until I get a 1/4" reamer just to make sure. Also, still don't have an inch-pound torque wrench, so need to do a final torque on the -02 assys. Note: ran safety wire thru the end attach assy's to hold the -04 shim plates in place until final assy
