Finishing up the cowl. Only a few rivets left (about 12).
Located, marked, and drilled the hole for the fuel filler door Southco fastener. Drilled and test-fit a Southco. Spot on.
Removed the cowl. Made some hopefully final trim adjustments to the 'glass - around the prop hub and evened-up the edges where the exhaust deflector will be fastened.
Next, located a scrap of 1.75" x 16" aluminum to make the deflector. Bent a 60 deg angle in it 1" from one side. Measured against the cowl to locate where it would be bent for teh side pieces. Made cuts. Filed for stress-relief at the end of the cut.
Had to make relief cuts where the end of the cowl centerline hinge extends to the end of the cowl, interfering with the deflector. Once trimmed up for the final fit, marked and drilled rivet holes. Drilled thru the cowl, then counter-sunk the fiberglass for flush rivets.
Final task wss to cut the deflector to match the centerline of the cowl halves. Deburred.
