Brief Description:  More Filing on the Cowl

Wow; 11 days since I last touched it. I think that's a record for the 3 years I've been working on #1170. Let's see - Tuesday I had a chapter meeting, wednesday I finished my 1040, thursday was the AirVenture webinar, friday was an off-day from work, but had a ton of errands and chores, saturday was down with sinus (we've been having 50 mph winds), sunday I went flying in my neighbor's RV12, monday we went to the Rangers game (we won!), tuesday was the chapter board meeting, wednesday my eyes were all messed up (thought I had a detached retina - extensive prodding by retina spec says no), tne thursday (last night) we went out to dinner with our sons who would be busy the rest of the weekend. Whew! Life gets in the way.

Anyway, on Monday I spoke with Jeremy at Sonex to see if I could get any hints on where to trim in order to reduce the gap at the back of the cowl. He said to concentrate on the corners. I really didn't want to glass-in a patch piece more for pride of workmanship.

So tonight, I re-trimmed the lower left corner, and that brought the 5/16" gap quite a bit closer together. Then I noticed that the bottom bowl part of the cowl was rubbing, so I made about 8 on-and-off cycles trimming various areas on the lower bowl edge, all the way up to the prop hub.

I am very pleased with the results. The picture does not show the real gap (about 3/32") because I had no extra hands to push the cowl togehter that last bit. Again, this is all in the last 10-12" on the aft lower edge. I still see some areas a bit forward from here that can be filed down some more, but the june bugs were really really trying to get into my ears so I called it a night.
