Brief Description:  Cleco'ing Side Hinge on Right Cowl

I decided to install the side cowl hinge half on the right side of the cowl. I can see that from now on, regular help will be, well, helpful. There are definitely opportunities for at least 3 hands.

Anyway, I was going to try and use the 12" 3/32" drillbit from inside of the cowl, drilling outward. Unfortunately there's enough stuff in the way, most notably the engine mount, that prevented a straight shot at the hinge. The first hole, even with a helper on the outside, went quite off course.

Next, I swapped positions with my helper - they held the hinge against the inside of the cowl and used a bright light so that I could see the hinge holes thru the fiberglass from the outside.

This worked well. Not 100% perfect (light angle fooled me sometimes) and would have a hole slightly off course. This was one time when I'm glad I kept everything at the 3/32" pilot hole level - up-drilling to 1/8 will straighten a lot out.

Not shown in this pic, but I then removed the cowl and cut an access notch as per plans to allow the hinge pin to be inserted from the bottom. I also performed a slight adjustment on the hinge location on the cowl, since the upper portion of the cowl was not tight against the fuselage side as was the bottom of the same area.
