Brief Description:  Install Left Head / Cover Plates / Oil Sump

Frustrating day.

In preparation for installing the left head, I installed the head to allow an accurate marking of the studs for trimming.

Removed all studs and trimmed to length with a cutoff wheel in my dremel tool. Installed the studs. Applied hi-temp sealant to the .090 cylinder shim and the base of the cylinder. Oiled the piston & cylinder, then slid the #1 cylinder into position. Installed the wristpin and circlip. Tapped into position. Repeated for number 2 cylinder.

Went to install the "super tin" lower baffles as I had on the right side, but because of the case stud nuts on the left side, I couldn't put the tin in place. I looked and looked, and was just getting ready to start cutting (Sonex provided no information on whether to cut or not...), my #2 son who was helping said "lemme try it." Walla, he snapped it in place with no prob. This side, however, the tin was on the upper fin, right below the head. The right side, I had put it 2 fins down (hard to see on the pic below unless you're familiar with the baffle location. Don't know if I have to change it or not at this point; posed a question on the discussion group.

Started to mount the rocker arm shaft; Again, not much help from the Sonex instructions; searching online, it appears I can use multiple shims under the rocker shaft in order to get the correct rocker geometry; all the instruction said was to put a spacer under the shaft.

I then installed the oil sump screen, cover, and drain plug.

Next, I installed the blockoff plates for the oil cooler, fuel pump blockoff, and vent.

Studied the oil pump; will have to tap one of the oil cooler holes.
