Today I messed with the other end of the tailwheel spring. Drilled a hole in one side of the tailwheel caster pivot mount using the V-block in the drillpress.
Inserted the tailwheel spring (titanium rod) and positioned on the tabletop to ensure the pivot was 90 degrees off from the tailwheel spring mount. Also, only 7 5/8" of titanium rod is to exist between the two weldments. Marked the length, secured the pivot weldment to the titanium rod with strong tape, and clamped it all in the drillpress.
Using the one hole already existing in the weldment, drilled thru the titanium rod (slowly, cobalt split-point drill, lots of oil) and out the back side of the weldment.
Got out the tailwheel caster to ensure the result was level, as shown in the picture.
