Brief Description: Progress toward left spar / rib assembly
|
|
One issue of which builders must be aware is that on the root rib attach brackets, the fillet extends a bit too far out, such that the washers used with the attachment hardware do not sit flush on the attach angle.
Spent time grinding an angle on the 8 washers and color-coding their orientation to ensure that the washers don't get twisted out of alignment during assembly.
Bolted the fwd / aft root ribs to the main spar. Slow going as I had to watch the washers so they didn't twist, and then had minor complications because the shop head of the CCP-44 rivets holding the ribs to the attach angles made the use of a socket wrench difficult.
Finally got all bolts on and torqued.
Did some quick cleco'ing of aft ribs to the spar. Ribs 1-4 have gussets applied to them, and rib 5 is trimmed to provide spar cap clearance, so these 5 ribs had already been deburred except for the final up-drilling to #30 at the main/aft spar locations.
Decided to not cleco any more into position, since it will provide greater clearance for the rivet gun if I only cleco one rib at the time of riveting.
Ribs 6-12 are unmodified from factory supplied condition, so spent time deburring all edges, holes, litening holes, etc. of ribs 6-9. Still have ribs 10 thru 12 to do.
