Brief Description: Adding Nutplates / Paint Glareshield / Mod Instrum
Started off installing nutplates in the original plus added holes for the fwd edge of the windscreen. This will greatly facilitate assembly later on.
Next, I completely masked off everything not to be painted and shot the glareshield with Satin-finish black paint. Not 100% thrilled; this may be a bit too much glare, but won't be concerned because I will have the upholstery kit glareshield cover when I go to fly.
Lastly, I determined by trial and error that I *will* be able to get to all vertically-oriented rivets that hold the panel to the glareshield with the windscreen in place - EXCEPT for the lowest rivet on each side. In order to provide somewhat of a removable panel (by drilling-out the rivets) I installed nutplates for #8 screws at these outboard locations. Unfortunately, I then noticed that the backside of the nutplate interferes with the lower angle of the lower panel support channel. I had to remove material to get them to fit. No loss of structural integrity, since there is a 1/8" plate riveted to the bottom of the channel at this point.
