Brief Description:  Valvetrain geometry

I've assembled and installed the rocker assemblies tonight. I have both a stock VW of standard rocker shafts and a set SCAT solid rocker shafts.
The stock shafts are assembled with wavy washers to hold the rocker arms in place, however these tend to break when used in anything above a stock VW 40hp application.
The SCAT solid rockers come with a solid piece in the middle and shims to set the rocker arm position on the shaft, but it is supplied with only one size of shims. You need many different sizes to set the position and side play correctly. SCAT also sells a set of shims you need to buy along with this set of rocker shafts but I was not aware of this until now.
Luckily my local VW specialist friend helped me out and provided me all the shims I needed.

Positioning the rocker arms on the shaft just takes a bit of time. you need to put the rocker arms on and off many times to get it right.
The rocker arms need to be positioned and shimmed so you have minimal side play and the tip of the arm is slightly off centre above the valve stem. This is done so that the valve rotates slightly every time it is engaged by the arm which will ensure even wear.

Next come the pushrods.
