I pulled the engine from the crate today. I had noticed before the paint was coming off, this seems to be caused by surface corrosion forming under the paint. It wasn't not real bad but I decided to do something about it so off comes the paint. I removed the accessory plate first and then started removing the paint using paint stripper, a steel brush and some sandpaper. This is going to be a difficult task, it's not exactly a "flat" surface. Anyway, there's no turning back now.
