I started installing the forward spar tunnel Z and aft spar tunnel assembly today. At this stage you find out why certain parts of the side walls can not be riveted yet, no way would you be able to fit these parts otherwise.
Anyway, no drama’s with the forward tunnel Z but when I got to the aft tunnel assembly I ran into a problem, the assembly does not line up with the holes in the floor skin, the hols are too far aft and just line up with the edge of the flange on the tunnel assembly, can’t be drilled there that’s for sure!
What could be wrong? Did I install the floor skin too far aft? Nope, if this were the case than the holes in the floor skin to attach the forward tunnel Z would not line up either but they do. Turns out the holes to attach the aft tunnel assembly in the floor skin were just drilled too far aft, I’ll need to make a new floor skin, damn!
I don’t have enough 0.032” sheet left to make the floor skin now so I’ll have to order half a sheet (6ftx4ft), this will take at least a week to arrive. Luckily I can continue to work on the forward fuselage in the mean time though, I will use this floor skin as a template for the new one (not for the row of holes that is too far aft off course) so I’ll just continue attaching things like the stiffeners using pilot holes in this floor skin as they will be in exactly the same positions on the new floor skin.
