Brief Description:  Completed right flap

First thing today while reviewing the plans I noticed a note on the drawing that says the flap rod end bearings ship with the fuselage kit. I thought they were missing from the wing kit so I spent $9 each and ordered them from Van's. Oh well, hopefully I remember to delete them from my fuse order so I don't pay for them twice. I have looked over that drawing a hundred times.....

I also found two of the correct platenuts for the flap inboard ribs so I can finish them up. I completed riveting the right flap today and needed some 319BS pulled rivets and I was out. I called down to my neighbor, Gerry's Aviation Supply, that guy has everything, and sure enough, he had some. After getting the 319's I completed the right flap.

As I was wrapping up for the day, the Captain stopped by to see what I was up to. Don has a knack for finding the one rivet on any assembly that isn't quite right. Keeps me on my toes.

The right flap is now completed and the left one should go pretty quick.

EAA has a series of over 200 short videos on their website called "Hints for Homebuilders". I watched several of them last night and put one of the hints to use today on the inboard flap rib. The tip was about the versatility of the C-frame by Cleaveland Tools which came with my wing kit. I didn't know this before but you can put different dies and cups in the tooling and use a back rivet set and the air rivet gun to shoot. This was faster and easier than squeezing. You can also use a mushroom set on the bottom and use the set up to back rivet. This tool has been gathering dust under my bench except for a little dimpling, so I will have to put it to better use.
