Brief Description:  Started making the flaps

Today I started making the flaps. I needed to make room on the work bench so I first put the ailerons on a shelf with padding for protection. Diane and the boys made fun of my sign and protection for them. It might be a little overkill, but with two teenage boys playing grabass all day you can't be too careful.

The first step to build the flaps is to remove burrs on the lightening holes in the main spar for each flap. I used a scotch-bright pad and did them by hand. I then used the scotch-bright wheel on the bench grinder to deburr the spar edges and all of the flap ribs.

Removing the blue plastic from the inside of the flap skins was the next task. To protect the outsides of the skins, I decided to remove the plastic on the rivet lines with a soldering iron like I did when building the tail surfaces.

Diane is running in the Chicago Shamrock Shuffle 8k tomorrow with 40,000 other people. The boys and I are going along to watch.
