Brief Description:  Colten finished the spare light lens

Today I talked Colten in to finishing the spare leading edge light lens. It won't be used until one of the other two get damaged or scratched in the future. Duckworks included a spare in the kit in case one of the other two were cracked while cutting them which isn't too uncommon from what I read. The instructions mentioned a couple different ways to cut it including scoring it with a knife or other sharp tool. This seems rather difficult and time consuming to me.

I read about guys using the oscillating multi-tool from Harbor Freight on VAF.net so I bought one last spring. It worked really good for me on the other two lenses and Colten had no trouble with it either. This will be what I use to cut the canopy in half when I get the finishing kit after the fuselage is done.

Colten did a nice job with the cutting and then sanded it smooth on the belt sander. I bought the bench sander a year or so ago at a garage sale for something like $30 and it works great.

The last thing I had Colten do was to drill the 5/32" holes, six total in the lens. He then counter sunk the holes and hand sanded with 400 grit the edge of the lens. This spare lens turned out well, but hopefully it isn't used anytime soon, if at all. Nice job Colty Smolty!
