Brief Description:  Started Left landing light mount installation

Today Colten and I worked on the landing light mounting kit as supplied by Duckworks for the left wing. They didn't have the hardware available, but shipped the rest of the kit for two lights as I will have a taxi light (aimed lower for ground operations) in one wing and a landing light (aimed higher to light up the runway on final approach) in the other wing.

The first thing we did was to cut out the supplied template and tape it on the wing in the proper location. The cut-out was then traced in marker on the leading edge skin. Next, I used my electric dremel tool with a fiber cutting wheel to cut out the skin just inside of the line while Colten held the leading edge steady. This part was a little hairy at first, but went pretty well once I got going. Cutting a hole in a brand new wing is like performing surgery on your first newborn child. Well maybe not that bad, but it is something you don't want to screw up.

After the hole was cut I spent quite a few minutes with a file smoothing everything out and then hit it with a scotch brite drum on my cordless drill. Colten held the lens in place for the last picture showing how it will look when everything is mounted.

This first session went really well and I'm sure the second mount on the right wing leading edge will go much faster.
