Brief Description: Installed pitot nutplates and controller
I chose to mount my heated pitot in an access cover for easy installation and maintenance. Tonight I drilled and riveted my 10 floating nutplates and attached the pitot to the left wing. The control unit for the system is mounted on stand-offs and is to be very close to the pitot tube, so as not to extend the leads coming from the pitot. I chose to mount in on the immediately adjacent rib. More nutplates...oh joy! Those are tiny little things, and so much fun to rivet. Anyway, I got it mounted, then warmed my pitot tubing and slide it over the pitot tube. That won't come off. Finally, I made the electrical connections from the pitot (positive and negative power leads and two thermistor wires) to the controller. The only remaining wiring to do on this system before closing the wing is to connect the three leads from a shielded wire that goes to a 3-LED display in the instrument panel. The shield must also be separated and locally grounded.
Only shot I have of my access cover nutplate installation
