Brief Description:  Riveting problems - spar ruined

Using the Avery C-frame, I was able to set all the AN470-AD-5-9 rivets without difficulty. However, when I transitioned to the larger 6-14 rivets, starting at the middle of the spar, I immediately had substandard results. The first four rivet holes on both top and bottom are at 20 pitch, and I had problems with three on the top and two on the bottom. When I tried drilling them out, only one rivet came out cleanly Three rivet holes were enlarged beyond the point of being usable. Knowing that one can upgrade to bolts, I had some hope that I'd be able to do that in these areas. My plan was to call ZAC on Monday. When I did, I learned that upgrading to the bolt would definitely have worked where the pitch was 40mm (which is most of the spar), and might have worked if I was only dealing with one bolt in a section of 20mm pitch rivets. Having two adjacent AN-4 bolts within 20mm does not leave enough center-to-center distance. The bottom line for me is that the part will have to be completely remade. Need I say more?
