Brief Description: Center spar ready to prime and rivet
|
|
My dilemna of how to precisely center and align the center upright supports was solved by making my blanks about two inches longer than needed. I then cut a piece of sheet aluminum to be 70mm wide and the length of my extruded angle pieces. I then carefully measured and blind riveted the angles to the aluminum sheet. This held things exactly 70mm apart. I was then able to move that around, as a unit, until it was precisely where I wanted it. I taped and clamped it down, flipped the piece over, and back drilled. Voila! After that, I marked the top and bottom lines, removed the backing sheet, then cut and sanded the angled ends. I can't say that my track record was as good for the additional uprights installed to accomodate my dual controls. My perfectionistic tendencies got the better of me, and I probably made 8 uprights and drilled them in place, before getting the two that I wanted. Finally, I assembled the unit, measured for the 45mm cutouts on the top flange and completed that process. Tomorrow I plan to do some practice riveting, then clean and prime the spar parts and hopefully get this completed by this time tomorrow.
