Brief Description:  Aileron Push Tube, Right Flap

Today I was going to finish up at least the small aileron push tubes. I finished the one I'd previously drilled, by wet installing the rod ends and rivets. When drilling the second tube, I mis-measured one of the rivet holes, and ended with the holes too close together. I'll need to order one new rod end and a new tube before continuing.

It's been a week since I've worked on the RV-7, so I decided to continue today's progress by getting started on riveting the right flap. I started by devinyling and deburring the exterior of the skins. I then dimpled the skins, ribs, and the top flange of the spar. The top skin is a bit awkward to handle for dimpling, so Karen came out and gave me a hand.

I started actual riveting by attaching the interior ribs to the bottom skin, including the shims between the ribs' aft flanges and false spar in the lower skin. I then inserted the rib/lower skin assembly into the upper skin and set the row of rivets joining the two skins on the bottom of the flap. I then riveted the bottom flange of the inboard and outboard ribs to the lower skin, followed by riveting the the FL-706B reinforcement plate to the inboard rib. I did this after riveting the bottom flange to the lower skin because on left flap, one of the rivets on the rod end plate nut interefered with one of the bottom skin rivets.

I would have continued on, but it was an extremely nice day weatherwise, and decided to take Karen out for local sightseeing in the 170.
