To locate the holes for the three bolts that secure the bottom of the VS rear spar to the (taildragger) F-712 bulkhead I measured, remeasured, marked, remeasured several more times several different ways on both the VS spar and the bulkhead, then finally committed drill to metal, but only #40 pilot holes, and only through the VS spar, off the fuselage. All this caution is to make sure the holes hit the aft flange of the tail wheel support weldment on the forward side of the F-712 bulkhead in the correct location. My plan is to remount the VS and mark the hole locations on the bulkhead and take some more measurements to make sure the holes end up in the right place. I’d much rather replace the VS rear spar (or even the entire VS) than to replace that weldment and bulkhead(s)…
