Brief Description:  What in the WORLD!

When I recieved the project there was a bunch of micro lathered up under the pilots seat on the exterior that made me wonder if the previous builder had accidently gone too far in hollowing out the seat pan and had to re-build this section. This was NOT the case. Instead as I began sanding this micro, I noticed a copper colored wire mesh beginning to show through...what was this!?
My only guess is that he, A: wanted to use this as some form of antenna, or B: to give a layer of protection in the event of a hard landing. Either way, it wasn't something I wanted on my airplane. Hilarious, After removing it I found it to be pretty heavy and glad I didn't just fill and paint over it. What a waste. :) I sanded it down to be as flush and possble without sanding through glass and will now be refinishing this area. One thing to note is that the sidestep and landing brake all need a beveled edge for good air flow and will take this into account when it come time to refinish this spot.
