Brief Description:  Fuel selector valve

Doing more plans review and contemplating the remaining fuselage tasks. And, of course, visited Dan C's website for a little inspiration. In looking over the fuel selctor valve and AFP filters, purge lines, etc., I had an idea come to mind regarding one of the RV-6A vs RV-7 differences. The RV-7 seems to have a much cleaner fuel line routing and construction of the fuel selector valve support structures. The RV-6A seems to lack that advancement, partly because of the design of the main spar bulkhead. There is no forward surface and it makes all the fuel system work a lot more 'ad hoc' looking, with no real anchor to tie up or housing to cover up.

My wife always says, "Don't throw that away, it's recyclable". SOOO... I decided there was an opportunity. Been working on the firewall lately (oil filter recess). Months ago I removed the original RV-6A battery box, planning to install the battery on the engine side of the firewall. I had also just reviewed Dan's website and his construction of the firewall mounted battery box for the Odessey PC680. It all came together in my mind, I knew the old RV-6A battery box was waiting in the corner to be converted to a fuel selector, filter, etc., housing. Vans needs to reconsider their recommendation to discard the old box.

It's going to require a little modification. Obviously the plastic straps can go, and I think the box is too long. Maybe cut the back off, shorten it, and reconstruct the box. Then fix the valve to the back. We'll see how that works. Will be following the RV-7A fuel and firewall plans.
