Brief Description: More canopy work
|
|
Tonight I drilled all the holes in the canopy (plexi glass) out to 8mm using a step drill, there was no hint of grabbing or cracking which others have experienced, this is done so that the 5/32 counter sunk washers will fit into these holes in the canopy and increase the surface area that the screws will apply pressure to. I also dimpled the left and right side flashing after drilling the holes out to #20, these dimples act in the same way as the washers and sit into the larger holes in the actual canopy. With this done I also swaged the cables for the latch mechanism. I was originally going to do this after painting, but its to tedious to keep pulling it all apart, so I will just mask the parts that I don't want to paint. Now I just need to finish the flashing around the front canopy bow, and tidy a few things up and the canopy is complete. I got a phone call today from Jabiru, the engine mount and new cowling they are making for me is ready to be shipped so that I can test fit, I hope it all works out OK and I don't need to report back that it needs modifications, fingers cross, it should be here early next week.
