Brief Description: Making the wing attach angle assemblies
Today I finished the wing attach angle assemblies, I had already made the wing attach blocks and angles a long time ago but I had not dared to drill the blocks yet. First I needed to make the 0.060” shim plates, these were easy enough, then on to drilling the blocks. Luckily I made 2 extra blocks (I had some spare bar stock) because I was not too happy with how the first two turned out, I had to learn the hard way that if you want a perfectly straight hole for these, it’s better to drill the holes at 3/16” straight away rather than pilot drilling a smaller hole first, you just need to be careful to position the drill correctly (all of this is done on the drill press off course). Once I had 4 blocks I was happy with, clamping them to the angles and drilling the holes through the angles was pretty easy.
Next I need to attach two these to the left spar but I have to make sure the mating holes on the spar are positioned absolutely perfectly, these are currently still at 3/32” on the spar and when I tried to mate the spar webs before just to test with 3/32” cleco’s, they lined up perfectly, I might have to repeat that process again and up-drill the holes in the spar to 3/16” that way with the spar webs mated, then install the attach angle assemblies.
