Brief Description:  Joining the fuselage

Happy new year!
It sure is so far, got a lot done on the first day of 2012, let’s hope I keep up the momentum during the rest of the year.
Today I got the forward fuselage side panels joined to the aft fuselage. Quite a job to complete in only 3 hours but I cheated a little.
Normally scratch builders have to set up and clamp the forward side panels carefully, making sure everything is perfectly aligned, kit builders don’t have to do this as they have the matching holed pre-punched in the side panels already.
Well, I did not do this either, remember I had to remake one of my aft fuselage side panels because it was slightly undersize? Well, it turns out that part was not a complete loss after all, I was able to use the front bit use as a template to drill the pilot holes on my forward side panels without having to clamp them to the aft fuselage (see 3rd picture). As long as I make sure the overlap is exactly ¾ inch on both panels (which is where the bend line is), everything should match perfectly.
In hindsight this was a bit risky but it worked out great, when I attached the side panels afterwards, I checked everything was straight and level, everything lined up perfectly. Yeepee!
Now I have to attach the floor skin, a job for tomorrow.
