Brief Description: Fitting the H-Tail (scary drilling)
I did not get the chance to do much on the Sonex last week, just had too many other things on I guess. Tonight I finally got back to fitting that H-Tail. Now comes the scary bit, drilling! It has to be done perfectly, otherwist I risk ruining my whole aft fuselage and H-Tail. It took me 1 hour to drill those 4 holes, just because I measured, measured and measured again before each hole. I used reference points on each side of the front of the fuselage to attach a tape measure and then measure the distance to the reference points on the tail until everything lined up and was symetrical. Finally I had to make sure I had the 25 degree elevator up as per the plans. When all this was done I finally drilled the holes. It was a case of wait and see to make sure that that the holes are more or less centered on the angles in the tail cone under the longerons. too much forward and I won't be able to get a nut on the bolts, too much backward and the'll just be too close to the edge. Others have had issues with this. Mine are perfectly centered! I could not be happier. I finished off today by placing th V-Tail just to have a look, looks great! I'll still need to trim it a bit though to make it sit perfectly straight, that's tomorrow's job.
